Display Cakes...

These are the display cakes I made for the Montpellier Midsummer Fiesta this year... which was, like most things this year, cancelled due to our appallingly ridiculous English Summer.
But I thought I'd share them with you all the same! :)

Mike's Golf Cake

This year Mike turned 26!
Now, because Mike loves Golf, namely Tiger Woods computer game it was decided that a golf cake would be the way to go.
Only a simple cake was asked for, just something to help mark the occasion and put a smile on his face.

Here's Mike cake...

And here are some lovely photos of Mike with his cake, this is the best bit about running a Cakery, I love the smiles my cakes create...

notice the console controller close to hand... Tiger Woods waiting to swing no doubt!

Happy 26th Birthday Mike!!!

A Ducati for Any Occasion

This month I was asked to re-create the Ducati Corse 848 Motorbike!

Now, I've only made one Motorbike in the past so this was a BIG challenge which took me right up to the collection deadline!!

I enlisted my favourite carpenter Ange with the help of her husband Den to help to create the frame, working from photos of the bike, making sure that the dimensions and angles were accurate.

It’s made with Vanilla sponge & Jam filling.  The cake was added to the wooden frame, carved and covered in black fondant icing, working the icing into the carved grooves hopefully matching the actual bike.

Ideally the real thing would be handy to make sure all the details were caught but online photos had to do the job in this case as I don't have a real Ducati up my sleeve!!  Admittedly, this is a much simplified version of the bike itself, but hopefully the experts out there will recognise it for what it is!

Finished with the birthday boy’s initials for the number plate, it was ready to be presented and eaten!!

And here it is...

P.S.  The little blobs of icing on the board are candle holders as requested by the customer so she could avoid spiking the cake with candles!! :)

I Do Love a Bit of Hand Painting...

In celebration of her son's 21st birthday, Christine called and ordered a birthday cake explaining that she would like a specific hand painted dragon.
Now dragons come in all shapes and sizes and when Christine sent a picture over to me, I was thrilled that I  immediately recognised this dragon in question as Charmanda the Pokemon, all thanks of course to the education of all things Pokemon from my nephew over the years, priceless information I'm sure you'll agree.
I guess it just goes to show how long Pokemon have been around, don't the years just fly by?!

Although this is a reasonably simple looking birthday cake I still think it's still fabulously striking with his colours and fiery little tail and I loved watching him come together as I painted.
Last I heard, the birthday boy still hadn't cut it!!

Finished with 2 different shades of yellow ribbon for that all round professional look...
