This
month I was asked to re-create the Ducati Corse 848 Motorbike!
Now,
I've only made one Motorbike in the past so this was a BIG challenge which took me right up to the collection deadline!!
I
enlisted my favourite carpenter Ange with the help of her husband Den to help to create the
frame, working from photos of the bike, making sure that the dimensions and
angles were accurate.
It’s
made with Vanilla sponge & Jam filling. The cake was added to the wooden
frame, carved and covered in black fondant icing, working the icing into the carved
grooves hopefully matching the actual bike.
Ideally
the real thing would be handy to make sure all the details were caught but
online photos had to do the job in this case as I don't have a real Ducati up
my sleeve!! Admittedly, this is a much
simplified version of the bike itself, but hopefully the experts out there will
recognise it for what it is!
Finished with the birthday boy’s
initials for the number plate, it was ready to be presented and eaten!!
And here it is...
P.S. The little blobs of icing on the board are candle holders as requested by the customer so she could avoid spiking the cake with candles!! :)
