Bright & Colourful Birthday Cupcakes

I just love these colours together, these cakes are created to celebrate Fran's 29th Birthday, but without having the faintest idea what she would like (they were ordered by a male, need I say more!) I thought I'd make her a box set that I would love.  I really hope she likes them...
Happy Birthday Fran!

Pervy Cupcakes for those with a saucy side!!

This has to be the perfect example of the customisation possibilities of the humble cupcake.
Ordered as a birthday present for a friend turning 50, my customer explained that the birthday boy is a bit of a perv!!!
I really enjoyed making these, although I had terrible visions of offending him but I've been reliably informed that he loved them, especially the knickers!!

Disney Cars Tow Mater

This has got to be one of my favourite cakes to make so far!!
When my oldest and dearest friend's sister got in touch to order her son Kyle a 4th birthday cake I had no idea who or what Tow Mater was but by the power of google (Greyskull!!) I educated myself and accepted the challenge.
He was so much fun to make, although I must admit to a few hair pulling moments, his towing equipment specifically!!

So here he is, in all his glory, goofy smile and all!
Happy 4th Birthday Kyle! x

P.S.  I still haven't had a chance to watch the film but it's definitely on my list of things to do now I've made friends with Tow Mater.

Girliness Galore!!

This weeks Coloured Bubble Cakery creation was to celebrate Ellie's 10th Birthday and the dawning of her double figures!!

Ellie's mum told me it needed to be very girly,  pink and purple with flowers and hearts and also suggested some very fluffy trim that I was able to find at my local crafty shop.

Filled with delicious vanilla sponge, raspberry jam and buttercream I can't wait to scoff the slice I've been promised with a nice cup of tea! :)

Happy 10th Birthday Ellie, I hope you have a fantastic day!

International Cake Show 2011

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, perhaps a little like a car convention might be for me, but this year's International Cake Show was well worth a visit.

It was absolutely packed with cake fanatics and their wheeled suitcases (for heavier purchases) making it a bit of an obstacle course!!
packed as ever!!

Not only were there stacks of shopping opportunities but also a fantasic level of competition cakes on display.  Here are a few of my faves...

I absolutely love cakes made to look like food... Roast Beef with
all the trimmings looking good enough to tuck into!

How real does this look???!!

Sushi!!!

And if you know me then you'll know I'm a massive fan of Johnny Depp (what female isn't?) and also Tim Burton so this one was right up my street...

For the more arty people... How about a dash of Gustav Klimt?

and for all those that appreciate a lovely cuppa...

Family Guy!!!
And for something a bit different for a Wedding...

Because life IS a rollercoaster!!

Just beautiful

Obviously the shopping was a thrill too... I managed to spend a small fortune on all sorts of bits and pieces. Including a brand new product that I am really excited to try out, I will blog all about it when I get a chance to give it a go... you'll never guess what it is or what it does, or can you?  Here's a sneak peek...

The Cakery is in Print once again!!

I am thrilled to be able to tell you that The Coloured Bubble Cakery appears in the November issue of Cotswold Style Magazine!

For all the Fence Builders out there...

This cake was created to celebrate Brian's 70th Birthday.
My client told me that Brian is a fence builder and that she would like his cake designed around that theme.
OK, I thought, where do I start with this one??  Well with a big fat vanilla and jam sponge for starters!
Man buildng fence...hmmm?  Well how about man having a tea break from building a lovely white picket garden fence??
I've been told it went down a storm.

The Chest Burster!!!!

This week my cousin Alex celebrated his birthday.
He had mentioned a few months back that if he ever ordered one of my cakes it would have to be something from the Alien films.  Now, I love the Alien films too, they are cult classic in my humble opinion and so I relished the chance to make this chest burster cake!!

Here it is in all its bloody glory... I've named him Alex the Alien!

He's totally edible, from Alex the Alien himself down to the human innerds and the lashings of blood, made with scrumptious chocolate sponge and Nutella filling
Gross, but I love him! :) I hope you do too.  Happy Birthday Alex, save me a slice pleeeease!

It's a BLOODY Miracle and Yummy Too!!

With Halloween almost upon us I thought it a good time to perfect a recipe for edible fake blood, not only for cakey usefulness but a great addition to any Halloween costume... for example... :)

So here's an amazingly quick & simple recipe for sweet & tasty fake blood!!

Ingredients:
Golden Syrup
Hot Water
Cocoa Powder
Red Food Colouring

To make and do:
Mix 3 dessert spoons of Golden Syrup for every 1 dessert spoon of hot water until well mixed.
Add red food colouring (colouring paste is best to avoid watering down the blood too much but liquid colouring would be fine and dandy).
Add lots of red colouring... until a good blood colour is created.
Now add half a teaspoon of cocoa powder, and mix thoroughly... for a while(!), the little pockets of cocoa will float to the surface when left unstirred so you can see if any are left, once completely mixed this should give the blood a denser colour.
This should be a perfect consistency for blood, but if not thin with hot water or thicken with slightly more cocoa.

Ta da...!
Happy Halloween!!!!

Chihuahua Cake

This cake was made to celebrate Sylvia's 60th Birthday and she provided a photo of her little chihuahua Billie so he could be on the cake somewhere.

But, I’ve never made a Chihuahua before, actually, to be more accurate I’d never made a dog before so I think narrowing down the breed was pushing my luck on this attempt, but I’ve given him his fluffy white bits to make him more recognisable!!
In fact in making this cake I also learned how to spell Chihuahua, not chiwawa as I first suspected.
It's amazing the things you can pick up when cake decorating!

Its made from two 10” sponges and two 6” sponges both deliciously vanilla and filled with loads of raspberry jam!!  Yummo!!

Anyone Fancy a Pint??

Why is it that most of my cakes turn out cartoony??  Maybe it's because that's the way I like them and this cake is no exception.
Created to celebrate the 60th birthday of an old friends dad who loves a pint of Cornish Tribute Ale.

It's made with my 'Dizzying Lemon Sponge' with lemon curd filling so should pack quite a punch!

The pale ale colour was created with my faithful airbrush who I fondly refer to as 'The Badger' simply as this is his brand name and I think it suits him.  I think he did a grand job on this cake :)
I rolled fondant to create the frothy bubbles and over spill and piped the pint glass details by hand.

Oh I do love making cakes that look like foody things :)  I loved making this cake and in the process got to catch up with lovely Nicky... it had been far far too long.  I really hope her dad likes it.

Happy Birthday Nicky's Dad!!

Kaleigh The Coloured Bubble Cakery KA!!!

Now firstly I would like to ask you all to please excuse my sloppy Sunday car washing attire that feature in the following photos, please don't judge me, it looked cold outside so I donned my big fuzzy jumper and sloppy pink pull ons for warmth and coziness!!  That said...

After months of planning and weeks of fiddling with the logo, I have finally found the nerve to brand my Kaleigh with the Cakery logo!!!

I would like to introduce you to... Kaleigh The Coloured Bubble Cakery KA!!!

Of course I could never have done this on my own and I must thank Stu and Pin from Spin Collective for helping with the final sticker decision making and, for her help, support and encouraging noises whilst stickering I can thank my good friend Nay who I really would've been lost without.

As Nay and I learnt, these things are never simple and we needed to negotiate some brain teasing hurdles before stickering... the first of which was making sure we didn't start sticking them on my neighbours red KA which, embarrassingly enough, was a close call!
Then out came the spirit level to avoid me stickering on the wonk, but it just didn't seem to look right, we couldn't work out how it could look so wonky until we noticed that Kaleigh was parked on the curb... a bit of raucous laughter at our stupidity later and the car was moved and the stickering commenced...

I must add that I found this a really proud and emotional moment for the Cakery and me.
Keep an eye out for us.

Stickers supplied by Spin Collective, check them out as they really do make the most amazing stickers!!!

P.S. I hope you won't mind but I felt the need to pixelate the reg's because that's what they do on the telly! :)

Daleks for Huxley

I made this cake over a year ago to celebrate Huxleys 6th Birthday.
As a massive Dr Who fan his mum and I decided to make him a Dalek cake and as I was experiementing with rainbow sponge at the time thought that Huxley and his cake would be the perfect candidate.

Here's the video of the Daleks being chosen and cut... hold onto your ear drums!!! :)

Rainbow vanilla sponge is available to order as cakey innerds but does cost more than regular spongey innerds.

Babies 1st Birthday Cake & Possibly Babies 1st Sugar Rush Too!

This is last weeks cake, created to celebrate the 1st birthday of babies Poppy, Maddy and Eilish!

I love this cake, I was given free reign on the design other than it needed to be bright and colourful so I thought to myself "who doesn't love buttons?!".
Well I love 'em, and I have fond memories of the old and battered tin, the home of the family button collection from my childhood, in fact coming to think of it, it was only a month or so ago that my sister, mum and I were knelt on mums kitchen floor oohing and ahhing over our favourites... of course things are different now, it takes me longer to get back up again as my joints don't take so kindly to the hard floor anymore!  Ah well, 21 at heart if nothing else!
Anyway enough nostalgia, here's the cake, I hope you like the buttoniness as much as I do!! :)

HELP for HEROES

This cake was made to celebrate a fundraising event at my 'local'.
The guys walked The Donnington Way, a 62 mile walk linking the pubs of the Donnington Brewery in a circular path through rural Gloucestershire in aid of HELP for HEROES, so basically they got drunk whilst walking a very long way, I take my hat off to them, it would've felt like a lot more than 62 miles if I'd done it drunk and therefore in zig-zags!!
They raised a total of £4692 and the cake went down a treat.
Here's the cake and here's the proof too (just in case you don't believe me!).

Halloween Pumpkin

I made this cake for my next door neighbour last Halloween.  His kids loved it!  Carlisle the cat was modelled from their very own new kitten!!
